Hi, I'm Vanessa Greene.
I’m running for the Rondout Valley Board of Education. I’ve called Stone Ridge home for nearly nine years, and my husband’s family has been here for over 50. We have two children in the district, one at the Intermediate School and one at Marbletown Elementary.
Since 2017, I’ve worked with parents, teachers, and administrators to enhance student experiences. As Marbletown Elementary PTA Vice President (2020) and President (2021-present), I’ve focused on fundraising to create more opportunities for students to learn, socialize, and engage with their community. I also served as Board President of Hurley Nursery School (2018-2022) and currently serve as registrar for AYSO Rondout Soccer Club.
As a local business owner, I understand the importance of strong schools for a thriving community. That’s why I’m committed to making our schools work for everyone. I’m ready to take my local experience to the district level.
Thank you for taking a moment to read this and for your support!

My Contributions to Rondout Valley
I believe in actively contributing to the change we want to see in our district. That’s why I’m in the schools multiple times a week, seeing firsthand what our students need and the positive difference our teachers and staff make for families and the community. Here are a few ways I’ve contributed to the Rondout Valley School District over the last seven years.
Supporting Families
Serving on a Board of Education subcommittee, School Improvement Team, and PTA on behalf of students and families.
Fundraising for Schools
Organizing fundraisers like the Holiday Craft Fair and Krause's Chocolate to support extracurricular activities.
Building Community
Overseeing local businesses hired for school pictures, assemblies, and events to build strong community connections.
Partnering with Teachers & Staff
Planning events like Literacy Night, Parent Night, Trunk or Treat, and teacher appreciation to strengthen school connections.
Enhancing Student Education
Managing and promoting extracurricular activities like Drama Club, Book Fairs, and Field Days to bring learning to life.
Communicating Consistently
Keeping parents informed about school events, policy changes, and fundraising through monthly meetings and the PTA Facebook Group.
Results
As President of Marbletown Elementary PTA, I've worked with dedicated parents who invest their time and energy to ensure every child has the opportunity to broaden their education. Over the past five years, we've raised over $80,000 and organized an average of 23 activities annually for students and families.

What Matters to Me
Communication
Improving communication by having the BOE more present in our schools, recognizing parent involvement, and ensuring that the great work happening in our buildings gets the attention it deserves.
Education
Keeping an open mind on every policy or curriculum decision is essential, as one-sided views can limit opportunities that prepare students for a constantly changing world.
Budget
We need to ease the financial strain on local families, recognizing that while education costs are high, the recent rise in living expenses makes it harder for families like mine to stay in the community.
Students & Families
Prioritizing the needs of students and families by ensuring that every decision we make fosters a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment.
